Zouch made the serendipitous and fortuitous discovery of Aaron Smith’s unique work on the very day we published a recent tribute to beard charts. The flashiness and modern style of his painting is funneled beautifully through his appropriation of 19th Century portraiture.

Some of the works below were shown in June at the Sloan gallery in New York. The exhibit was called Coterie of the Wooly-Woofter and was described as “a bad-ass neo-dandy beardo brigade from beyond time.” These paintings are part of two collections: Mucksnipes and Bearded Blokes, on the artist’s website
